Evolution Measurement is thrilled to announce its official technical partnership with Horizon Motorsports as they prepare to debut their revolutionary, father-and-son-built time attack machine, Hammerhead.
At the heart of this audacious project is Cavan Cameron, a senior year student from Purdue University, and his father Russ Cameron, whose shared passion for motorsport and engineering has culminated in a one-of-a-kind street/race hybrid built around the DNA of 1994–2002 Reynard Champ Car components, a first in grassroots time attack competition. To support the car’s advanced aerodynamic development, Evolution Measurement is proud to supply EvoScann® P8-A miniature pressure scanners, enabling real-time, high-fidelity aerodynamic data acquisition on track.
“This isn’t just a car, it’s an engineering thesis on wheels,” says Cavan Cameron. “Working with Evolution Measurement and their EvoScann® technology gives us the precision data we need to validate our aero package under real racing conditions. It’s a game-changer for a grassroots team pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.”
Brendon Cleave a seasoned race car specialist and key member of the build team, is spearheading the aerodynamic development and integration of the EvoScann® P8 units. “Having access to EvoScann® miniature pressure scanners allows us to map surface pressures, fine-tune wing angles, diffuser performance, and underbody flow, all critical in time attack. We’re not guessing. We’re measuring, learning, and evolving.”
The project began as Cavan’s senior internship and blossomed into a full-scale engineering endeavour, fuelled by Russ’s lifelong love of second-generation Firebird Trans Ams and their mutual obsession with race-bred innovation. Horizon Motorsports, known for its specialisation in vintage Reynard Champ Car parts, has masterfully integrated these high-tech components into a modern, track-focused platform.
EvoScann® P8: The Secret Weapon in Aerodynamic Tuning
The EvoScann® P8-A miniature pressure scanner, developed by Evolution Measurement, is a compact, rugged, and ultra-precise data acquisition system designed for motorsport, aerospace, and wind tunnel applications. Capable of capturing up to 8 channels of dynamic pressure data at high sample rates, it is the perfect tool for mapping airflow over wings, splitters, diffusers, and bodywork exactly what Horizon Motorsports needs to shave tenths off their lap times.
Following WTAC Sydney, Cavan will continue to develop and test the car at major U.S. events including Gridlife, Global Time Attack and Super Lap Battle, turning each event into a rolling laboratory powered by EvoScann® data.
